Cost of Installation
2.11 The cost for a building owner to install a 3.7 metre
satellite dish and related reception equipment is approximately $105,000. Most apartments would be already wired to a CABD system and the satellite dish could be connected to the apartment without further cost. The cost per apartment would depend on the size of the building as follow:

2.12 The cost of laying new cable from the dish to the
apartment to a specification compatible with Cable TV would be $400 per apartment (the cost of maintenance is minimal - about $25 per month per apartment)
2.13 Thus the installation cost of a SMATV System for a 150 apartment building would be no higher than $700 ($1100 if new wiring is needed). Therefore the cost of installation is very low and will not inhibit the spread of SMATV. It will however attract a variety of small operators whose quality of installation and customer service will be highly inconsistent.
