(b) Extension of teaching time
Extension of teaching time is proposed for remedial teaching of languages and for incorporation of foundation/complementary studies
UPGC's Comments
(iii) the timing of implementing
the final form of the Scheme will be consistent with the timetable for upgrading the one-year sixth form courses to two-year courses (see Item 1 above)
The Polytechnics will be expected to absorb any additional expendi- ture arising from their separate JAS for sub-degree courses
(b) Extension of teaching time
The present proposals put forward by the institutions are modest : additional expenditure arising from the proposed extension of teaching time should be met by the normal block grants and/or funds to be made available for remedial teaching of English (see Item 4 above).
The institutions have been asked to formulate more "radical" proposals, having regard to the Government's separate decision to expand tertiary education at an acce- lerated pace during 1991-95 : the need for additional funding
for such proposals will be consi- dered on individual merits
