Dear Mr Maude
Following our meeting on 13 December last year, I write to enquire as to the position of Vietnamese unaccompanied minors in general, and orphans in particular, currently in Hong Kong refugee camps. At that meeting you said you would find out details of the precise number of unaccompanied minors and the conditions in which they live in the camps. I appear not have these details as yet.
There has been a tremendous response from the Christian Church in the light of the suggested adoption initiative. I understand that there are at least one thousand urgent cases amongst the unaccompanied minors and that these are being looked at by Social Workers within Hong Kong.
I look forward to your reply and assure you of our commitment to the welfare of these children.
