SPEAKING NOTE
During a recent visit to Guangdong and Guangxi,
Hong Kong Government officials were assured by Chinese Marine Police and other officials that it was illegal to sell junks to Vietnamese boat people without the sale being registered. If they were aware of any illegal sales, they would take action against the vendor.
We have received the following information from
recently arrived Vietnamese boat people.
i)
A group of 48 boat people, staying at Bao An
Xian Guangming Hua Qiao Farm purchased a vessel,
registration number 088X (the last digit could
not be recalled) shortly before their departure
on 4 May;
ii)
iii)
A group of 8 VBP's purchased a junk from a
Chinese male called San Ge at Zhu Jiang Hua Qiao Farm on 24 April;
A group of 16 VBP's purchased a boat at Zhu Shan
shortly before 13 April. The vessel was number was 柟 28
I should be grateful if this information could be
brought urgently to the attention of the relevant security
officials. I should be grateful if we could be informed of any outcome of their investigations. Hong Kong Government is happy to provide further information of this nature if this is useful.
