Description of Voyage

Boatmaster

CỬ MỸ NGHIỆP

On

This group of 14 persons were either relatives or neighbours.

11-4-90, they left HO CHI MINH, S.VN by train and reached HAI NINH, N.VN. on

16-4-90 via HANOI. They then split into small groups in order not to arouse

suspicion of the Vietnamese and Chinese border guards. They managed to go

through the check points smoothly. Having an overnight rest in DONG XING ( 東興) they travelled to FENG CHENG (7) where they stayed with their

friends in HUA SHI FARM (菜農坊 ) for 4 days awaiting onward

arrangement. With the assistance of local folks, they managed to reach HAI KANG A

) and stayed at the house, the boatmaster's distant relative. It was not until 11-5-90, they took a bus to reach SHA JING (54) # ) where they bought a wooden fishing junk at a cost of RMB $5,000. They set sail in the early morning on the following day. Eventually, they arrived in Hong Kong on 13-5-90 after a brief stopover at an unknown island.
