This group of 15 departed HO CHI MINH CITY, S. VN separately by train in later April, 1990. They reached HAI NINH via HA NOI and HONG GAI and then crossed the Sino-Vietnamese border by boat. They gathered again at DONG XING

HUA IAO LU SHE ( 東興華僑旅社 ) where they encountered their

couriers. These three couriers agreed to provide them with escort service and a sailing junk at a cost of 0.3 tael of gold per adult. On 5-5-90, they were led to ZHU SHAN ( 竹山 ) after a half hour's ride from DONG XING. They boarded the exodus junk and set off immediately. The couriers piloted the junk and sailed continuously day and night. On 12-5-90, they reached SHEN JING ( 深井

) and could not carry on their voyage because of engine problem. The couriers soon disappeared and they were left behind for engine repairing. They moved on two days later but had to stop again at HENG IN DAO (+b) on 14-5-90 as the engine of their junk had completely broken down. Fortunately,

they encountered a passing-by fishing junk and their boat was towed to MACAO on
