The exodus was organized by the boatmaster who invited his clansmen and friend to join the trip. After careful consideration, they preferred to come to Hong Kong by land via China, rather than by s88. Before they started their journey, the boatmaster collected informations and intelligences, especially the routing, from the local folks and Chinese residents who went to Vietnam for business. On 1-12-1989, they left DONG NAI, S. VN. by bus and reached HAI NING on 9-12-1989 via HANOI and HACOI. There they seperated into two groups as they believed that the control would be tightened to Vietnamese male. Therefore, a female member (one of their group members) pretended to be Chinese resident by wearing the Chinese style clothings and crossed the Sino-Vietnamene Border smoothly without alerting the VN. officials whereas the rest of them (3 males) came to DONG XING

) by amall boat at a cost of RMB $2 per head. The group members
