All 16 boat people were residents of southern Vietnam. They proceeded to China via the Sino-Vietnamese land border by the end of November in six different groups. They first went to HA NOI from HO CHI MINH CITY by train. After a brief stopover, they moved on to HON GAI, HA COI and finally arrived in MONG CAI.
