These 9 VBP were landcrossers from Vietnam to China. started their journey on 28-11-89 and went to HAI PHONG via HA NOI by train. On 7-12-89, the party arrived in MONG CAI where they met a Viet- namese named 'THIEP'. 'THIEP' was a frequent traveller between China and Vietnam. He promised to take the party to China and charged them at 0.5 tael of gold. They were, then led to JIANG PING (21), CHINA via DONG XING) in two separate groups. The first group, comprising three VBP, paid 2000,000 dongs to the VN border officials while the other group paid 270,000 dongs. They ded not encounter any PRC official 8B they took some mountainous paths afterwards. The party were then· taken to the house of a Chinese named 'TONG' (address unknown). They stayed there until 19-12-89 when 'THIEP' arranged a motorized boat (the one by which they arrived in Hong Kong) for them.
