There was a total of 6 452 robbery cases in 1989,
increase of 747 cases or 13.1% from 1988. Of this total, 263 cases
involved the use of genuine firearms or pistol like objects. compares with 196 cases in 1988.

Of all the robberies which occurred in 1989, 72 were
goldsmith/watch shop robberies and 58 were bank robberies. The
corresponding figures for 1988 were 53 and 40 respectively.
Burglary

Of all the

There were 7 357 wounding and serious assault cases in
1989, an increase of 11.6% compared with 1988. Within this total, 321
cases were committed by the Vietnamese refugees/boat people. Domestic
dispute was the motive of 49% of the woundings and serious assaults.
Blackmail

The total number of blackmail cases reported in 1989 was
664, compared with 612 in 1988.
