YOUR VIEWS ON CHINESE REACTION TO NATIONALITY PACKAGE
Package not aimed against China and will not damage
Chinese interests.
Aim of package is to encourage key people to remain in Hong Kong and therefore to enhance stability and
prosperity of Hong Kong.
We believe that our intentions are entirely consistent
with Joint Declaration and associated UK Memorandum which
does not preclude grant of citizenship before 1 July
1997.
We remain fully committted to Joint Declaration and to
its full and faithful implementation.
Hope
Have explained this to the Chinese authorities. that Chinese will come to recognise package as positive
contribution to stability and prosperity of Hong Kong.
