Chinese authorities have conducted extensive consultations in Hong Kong through the Basic Law Consultative Committee composed of Hong Kong people and through the submission of views direct to the Chinese ourselves. We have done what we can to ensure that Hong Kong views reach China eg we passed to the Chinese the OMELCO paper
on the draft Basic Law.
We have taken every opportunity to underline to China the importance of a Basic Law which is welcomed by Hong Kong and fully reflects the
Joint Declaration.
