In the past, we can sce social unrests in Hong Kong that were all directly or indirectly related to the events in China. All these unrests have been cleared and law and order restored by the superior quality of the police. Those who were arrested or involved in these activities would surely bear a strong grudge against the police who brought peace to Hong Kong.
We and
We feel that our nightmare would be coming soon. our family (including the retired) would suffer political purge and persecution if we do not plan ahead and make the necessary arrangements now. Our personal safety, our pensions and related benefits would be in jeopardy. I wonder what arrangements would be made in relation to the documents and files related to the police as these are the best materials for evidence for future persecution and arrest.
It is high time that the British and Hong Kong Government should immediately work positively to honour their moral obligation and responsibility for us. They should grant all JPOs the right of abode in Britain, or to offer assistance to them to seek permanent residence in other countries.
We all made a solum vow before we took up our police work. It is simply unfair for the JPOS to take this political burden and in return receive a salary of only a few thousand dollars.
I wish to draw your attention to the point that the word "Royal" had been added on to the title of the Hong Kong Police Force after it had played a triumphant and beautiful battle in stamping out disorder in 1967. At that time, many people tried hard to use propaganda and psychological tricks to lead us to turn against our superiors. Fortunately, we were able to upkeep our principle and work to the end. However, those people deep down in their hearts bore great hatred towards us and were waiting for one day to take revenge. I am sure you, as the British Foreign Secretary, would understand and share our feelings towards the issue.
It is our sincere wish that you could make appropriate arrangements for our members and their relatives so that we can feel mre secure. By now, we had a better understanding of the saying : "Give me liberty or give me death".
