Kong Government's decision to accept the recommendations of the Standing Committee on pay for the rank-and-file of the disciplined services was taken after very careful consideration. But the additional salary increases recommended for Junior Police Officers do not in anyway reflect on the importance of the role played by the other Disciplined Services in maintaining the stability and security of Hong Kong in the crucial years up to 1997.
I understand that the Standing Committee will submit its advice on pay for the Officer ranks towards the end of the year.
The Committee's advice will be considered by the Hong Kong Government as a matter of priority.
