MR MAUDE'S TRAVEL PLANS

Mr Maude would like to make the following overseas visits:
a) 9-10 July: Rome
Mr Maude thinks that it would be useful for him to make a 36 hour visit to Rome at the beginning of the Italian Presidency of the EC. The Secretary of State will be at the Economic Summit in Houston but all other Ministers expect to be in the Office.
b) 28 September - 5 October: Hong Kong (and Guangzhou)
Mr Maude considers it important for him to visit Hong Kong on a regular basis. This visit would come some 5 months after his last visit. He thinks it would also be useful to spend a day or two in South China (Guangdong province), provided that his visit to Peking goes ahead in July. Mrs Chalker will be in West Africa for the
whole period and Mr Waldegrave in Sweden from 28-30 September but the Secretary of State, Lord Brabazon and Mr Sainsbury all expect to be in the office.
