Just a few words to congratulate you on your promotion and to thank you for all your help with the television debate we arranged between Durham University and the combined universities' team of Hong Kong. The debate took place on the 26th, last Sunday, and was a great success possibly the best so far.
The FCO did their stuff and gave the Durham team a first class briefing. The consequence was that we had a lively informed exchange without providing any ammunition for the fertile minds of the local media. More to the point, the two teams achieved an excellent rapport and, before I finally leave, I hope to arrange more such events.
Peter Heap, our senior Trade Commissioner, gave us every support including acting as one of the judges at the debate. So I am copying this to Patrick Wright at the FCO to tell him how much we appreciate all the help we got from the Office.
I am leaving for a break in England today where my new address is Queen's House, Sulgrave, Nr Banbury OX17 2RR Tel. 029-576-408
