6. In China, Sir Idris will be speaking to academic and technical audiences. He is in touch with the British Council separately, but asked Mr Maude if there was any possibility of help from the FCO or the ODA in offering places for Chinese students. Richard Ellis would be able to help students into British firms or into particular Mr Maude promised to look into what we could do but explained the constraints, agreed by the EC, on contacts of this kind. He would be grateful for advice in the autumn on whether there is anything we can offer.
