SELECTION CRITER IA
Main criteria will be value of service to Hong Kong and
propensity of people in their category of employment to emigrate. Other criteria will include experience, education, ability to speak English and existing links
with the UK.
POSITION OF NON CHINESE ETHNIC MINOR IT IES
These people will be eligible to apply under the scheme and their applications will be considered on their merits.
WILL SPOUSES OF EXPATRIATE BRITISH CITIZENS IN HONG KONG
BE GRANTED CITIZENSHIP?
Nationality package will not include an amendment to
British Nationality Act 1981 to allow spouses of British
citizens in Hong Kong to acquire British citizenship.
These spouses already have assurance of knowing that
if at any time the family wishes to come to the UK, they may accompany thier spouse who is a British citizen and
settle here.
While working on the nationality package, we will
consider if further arrangements under immigration
provisions are necessary to protect their position.
WILL THE SCHEME INCLUDE "VULNERABLES
Yes. Any person whose line of work or activities in Hong Kong might cause them to be vulnerable after 1997
will be covered.
