I appreciate that a decision on the political reforms in
Hong Kong is some weeks off but can you indicate what is the
minimum number of seats that would be enough to prevent an erosion
of confidence in Hong Kong's political syster?
FOREIGN SECRETARY:
That is a very brave effort but the answer is not this
afternoon,
CHESTION:
would you say that given the considerable number of
civil servants to have full citionship of the UK would he
beneficial to the prosperity and stability of Hong Kong after 1997?
FORBIGE SECRETARY:
Yes, I think it would enable such people, give them
confidence to remain here and continue to do the kay jobs which
they at present hold. That is the purpose of the package and it
applies within the numbers that you know of to the public services
as well as to the private sector.
