1990: BRIEFING
Contribution to briefing for the Secretary of State
HONG KONG/HUNGARY
Points to Make
Hong Kong is keen to increase trade and investment links with Hungary. Hong Kong wants to strengthen its role as international
business and conference centre.
Hong Kong Government have relaxed their visa policy for short
In future term business visitors from all East European countries. Hungarian businessmen will find it easier to visit Hong Kong and to attend trade fairs, exhibitions and conferences.
Visa applications will still be individually examined, but there will no longer be any numerical restrictions, provided there is a good commercial justification for the visit. Processing of visas can be speeded up if detailed commercial information is provided in support of application.
Defensive
(If idea of opening Hungaria Trade Office or Consulate is raised)
If Hungary's trade with Hong Kong does develop, might be possible to consider some form of trade representation in due course.
