THE COLONIAL LETTERS PATENT ACT 18G J (26 & 27 Vicl. c. 76)
An Act to determine the Time at which Lelters Potent shall take effect in the Colonies (28th July 1863)
The short title was given to this Act by the Short Titles Ael 1896.
1. Operation of existing lettera patent
No such letters patent heretofore made shall (unless otherwise provided therein or by other lawful authority) be deemed to have taken or shall take effect in any such colony or possession as aforesaid until the same were or shall be publicly made known or arted upon therein: Provided, that any net or thing heretofore done or purporting to have been done in pursuance or under authority of such Jellers patent shall be as valid and effectual as if the same letters patent had laken effect at the date of the making thercol.
NOTE
No auch Letters Pntent. These are referred to in the pientible as Letters Palent intended to take effort within Her Majesty's colonies and possessions beyond the seas,
2. Operation of future letters patent
No such letters patent hereafter to be made shall (unless otherwise provider therein or by other lawful authority) take effect in any such colony or possession until the making of the same shall have been signified therein by proclamation or other public notice.

3. Appointments by letters patent to be vold unless pubilalted within nine or six months
Any such letters patent by which any person may be hereafter appointed to any office or employment within any such colonies or possessious shail (unless otherwise provided therein or by other lawful authority) become null and vold in respect of such colony, unless the same shall be so signified as aforesald, within the following period; that is to say, within nine calendar months in case such colony or possession shall be to the eastward of Bengal in the Einst Indies, or to the west of Capa Horn in South America, or in any other case within six months after the making thereof.

The short title was given to this Act by the Short Tilles Act 1895. Exclusion of this Act,
Australia. By the Commonwealth Statuls of Westminster Adoption Act 1941 (No. 36 of 1941), the Commonwealth Parliament ceased to be bound by this Act after 3rd September 1939. That enactment does not ríflect the State legislatures.

The term "colony" shall in this Act include all of Her Majesty's possessions
