Dear Tony,

MARIA TAM

1.

Thank you for your letter of 8 June. I have now heard from the Special Adviser, David Lidington, who has just had confirmation from Conservative Central Office that they would be willing to lay on a short programme for Maria Tam during her forthcoming visit.

2.

David Lidington suggests a programme of about one day, consisting of visits to two constituency organisations in Greater London (perhaps Wandsworth and Kensington). A visit to Conservative Central Office could also be arranged. He wonders whether Maria Tam might also be interested in seeing something about how computers can be used in connection with political organisations and campaigning.

3.

David Lidington has suggested that the arrangements should be made through Mr John Earl, who is a Central Office agent for Greater London. His telephone number is 071-233-0444.

4.

I am sure that it would be fine for Maria Tam to speak to John Earl directly about the detailed arrangements. But it would be helpful if you could let us know whether the sort of programme outlined above would be of interest to Maria Tam, or whether there is anything else which she would like to do. Once we know this, and have confirmation of the dates when she will be in the UK, we shall then speak once more to Conservative Central Office, and leave the detailed arrangements to them.

Yours Sincerely
