Our Ref. (89) #7086

Postmaster General,

General Post Office,

Hong Kong.

Dear Sir,

5 May 1989

Frequency Coordination of

Mid-wave & Short-wave Broadcasting

I refer to a letter recently referred to us from

Mr. A.M.H. WONG of the Hong Kong Post Office dated 23.2.89 addressed to Chief Engineer Mr. FENG Xi-feng of the Guangdong Province Broadcasting and Television Department. The letter elaborates on the issue

of building a 100W mid-wave transposer station in Chung Hom Kok, Hong Kong, involving coordination work at 1584 KHz. After study.

we find that the above project when completed will affect the operation of our Guangzhou Station and Bao An Station of the same frequency listed in the long-wave and mid-wave plan, Regions 1 and 3, 1975 However, in order to improve the mid-wave coverage of the Hong Kong broadcasting on the southern part of Hong Kong, we agree the building of a 100W mid-wave transposer station in Chung He Kok, Hong Kong, utilizing the frequency 1584 KH2. But we want to know what channel or what station of broadcasting program le this transposer station intended for.

As regards coordinations of BBC's short-wave transposer station in Hong Kong, Director CAI Hul of the Guangdong Province Broadcasting and Television Department had advised the Hong Kong Post Office in a letter in 1988 that all issues involving the mid-wave and short-wave broadcasting coordination in future should be referred to us direct. We also like to take this opportunity to reiterate Mr. CAI's statement in his letter to the Hong Kong Post Office dated 4 June 1986 regarding our government's position in this matter, which is, if the BBC transposer station is to go beyond 1997, it will be an issue between the China and the British government.
