FUTURE

Commercial Radio has reached a high level of programme development which is in line with public needs and aspirations. If it is granted a new licence the Company intends to maintain this output and further develop it. (See Six Year Projections of Programme Development at

pages 12 to 14 ).

The first step into this possible future for Commercial Radio was made tentatively in 1988 with managerial restructuring and reprogramming of all stations. Audience and advertising reaction was positive.

Two Quantitative and one Qualitative audience surveys were commissioned during 1988 which indicated the basic format was right and would not require any major changes in the near future. However, rapidly changing life styles and new technology indicate that two surveys a year (as being conducted currently) may not be adequate in the future, in which case the frequency will be upgraded to four surveys a year from 1990. These may indicate changing taste and the need for new programme trends. Whatever these may be the Company's foundation policy of putting the public interest first will continue.
