PAST AND
PRESENT

During the twenty-nine years of its existence, Commercial Radio has established itself as a vital part of community life with Hong Kong's interests a top priority. Its programme services provide a viable alternative not only
to other Radio stations but also to television and all
non-broadcasting entertainment and news media.
It, obviously, would be pointless to broadcast programmes if nobody listened to them. Commercial Radio's first requirement in maintaining its policy of informing, entertaining, and educating through its broadcasting is to build up and maintain an audience. Commercial Radio gains its audience through its entertainment programmes and information and practical education messages are put across utilizing the most modern broadcasting and advertising techniques.
This concept has proved itself over the last twenty-nine years and is still effective today. Public tastes, life styles and living standards have changed and so have radio programmes and techniques but these basic principles remain the same.
Commercial Radio's daily programme schedules cover a wide variety of programme categories within the basic broad- casting areas of information, entertainment and education. These categories include News, Sports, Public Affairs, Phone-in Forums, Practical Education, Music, Drama and Variety.
These daily schedules also contain segments on subjects of public information like Health, Hygience, Industrial Safety, Job Opportunities, AIDS, Narcotics, Traffic News and Urban Council Cultural and Leisure Activities. It is significant that Commercial Radio has received nominations and awards from overseas Broadcasting Bodies and local professional Associations for many of these public service messages and programmes.
