3. FOREIGN RADIO
3.1 Awareness of foreign radio
Awareness of foreign radio was reasonably high among the sample: 10.1% could sponta- neously name any foreign broadcasters. After being read a list of 15 foreign stations, a further 14.1% could recall knowing of at least one broadcaster. In total, therefore, about one respondent in four was aware of foreign radio.
Better educated men, aged between 20 and 49 and living in large cities were most likely to know about foreign broadcasts.
Radio Beijing and Radio Moscow obtained the highest figures for both spontaneous and total awareness, with the BBC in the third place.
