1988
A SUMMARY OF FEEDBACK FROM LISTENERS ́ LETTERS RECEIVED IN THE LAST FULL YEAR (1988) AND
IN THE LAST QUARTER (MARCH MAY 1989)
-
292 letters were received, but under half were from Vietnam. (The extremely high cost of postage of overseas letters and the possibility of censorship must deter listeners from writing to the BBC). Most letters from Vietnam were from listeners living in the southern part of the country, and particularly Ho Chi Minh City. Most letters related to the bi-lingual English lessons and the free
material offered on the air. A short story competition organised in early 1988 attracted 14 entries from Vietnam.
support
The majority of mail from outside Vietnam came from listeners living in North America and Europe. Contributions to the New Year Phone-Out Greetings programme, requests for BBC English support materials, and for programme information made up the majority of mail from other countries.
1989
106 letters were received. Because of other pressures on staff resources, the Vietnamese Service has been unable to analyse mail this year.
