Mr Whitehead has now contacted Ms Sarah Smith of Granard Rowland Communications, the organisers of this event, and explained that neither the Secretary of State nor Mr Maude will be available to attend. Mr Whitehead mentioned the name of David Howell MP, as a possible alternative. Ms Smith said she would bear this suggestion
in mind if the Breakfast Forum went ahead. She indicated that Granard were having considerable difficulty in persuading speakers to take part in this event.

Ms Smith confirmed that she was content with this oral response and would not now expect a written reply.
