commentaries of certain pro-Taiwan newspapers, which spread the
concept of "the enemy and us" and use Hong Kong as a springboard to
wage psychological warfare and counteroffensive on the mainland. They
are apparently striving for "human rights and freedom", but their real
intent is to ruin the political conditions for the implementation of
"one country, two systems" and delay the progress of the peaceful re-
unification with Taiwan.Are those Taiwanese really that concerned about
"human rights and freedom"? What about the CHIANG Nan incident,
CHEN Wen-cheng incident, the case in which the whole family (of an
activist) was killed, and the political prisoners on Huo Shao Island?
What do these tell us?
The present situation is that there have been great changes
in respect of communist China's political line, which has become more
lenient and mild. But, the implementation of this policy depends on
one condition: external political forces must not take advantage of the
existing lenient and mild policy to carry out subversive and disruptive activities against the mainland regime.
The best way to guarantee that Hong Kong, an economic city,
will be free from the interference of communist China is to strive for
economic development so that the mainland's four modernisation programme
will benefit from it. Should the political parties of Hong Kong take
it upon themselves to reform the mainland and engage in political disputes
with it, then they are asking for trouble.
US Congress's interference with Hong Kong Affairs
Some people in the US are very much concerned about
"human rights" in China. They have repeatedly tried to influence China's
political affairs through various channels. Now the US Congress is also
