Parties formed in such a manner has an inherent weakness, and is susceptible to vacillations Members may have come together by mistake and then split up when they understand each other more. Those who have broken away, not willing to be left in the blues, may form parties of their own. In future, political parties in HK may spring up like mushrooms. At the same time, it will become meaningless to draw up any political platform. Much will depend on the people. It is difficult to say whether views of the core members would coincide with the party line. As different people have different aspirations, change in leadership will bring about change in political inclination of the party.

As a matter of fact, a political party should have iron discipline to ensure that leaders and members stick to the party line. The dissidents would be expelled to maintain party purity and continuity. However, all political parties in HK have to recruit members from the same pool of "political stars". Knowing that they are a rare commodity, these "political stars" would demand the party to concede to their own political views. It has now come to a state that the "party" has to ask favour of its members rather than the members rally around the "party". It is foreseeable that political parties in HK will be very loose and free. There will be no discipline whatsoever. There will not be any striking differences among the parties, except for leadership style.

Lacking in political difference may turn out to be an advantage after all. The administration of HK will not have drastic changes no matter who is in power. But competition among people and parties will become more intense. Everybody will be making promises of office such as "if your vote goes to me, I shall appoint you to such and such an office when I am in power". In other words, sharing of benefits. This was the way American party politics were in the early period. Until today, there is not so much political polarization between the Democrats and the Republicans as to difference of people in the core and at the basic levels.
