A week or so ago I telephoned Mr Briegel, Legacy Officer at the ICR, to discuss the mechanics of donating one third of the

Sir S K Tang Gift (£333,333), plus the accrued interest, to the Institute. Mr Briegel wrote to me last week, acknowledging my offer and recording his understanding of our telephone conversation.

I have now drafted a letter in which I have laid out the conditions of the donation, as I see them. I should be most grateful if you would cast a critical eye over my draft with a view to transforming it into a more legally precise letter.
Unless you advise otherwise, I would prefer to keep the exercise simply to an exchange of letters between the Institute and Hong Kong Department.
3. I enclose copies of relevant correspondence and background telegrams from Hong Kong.
