Thank you for your letter of 10 May concerning administrative arrangements for the SK Tang donation.
Interest earned on the donation would not be liable to tax under the terms of the British Council's charitable status in the UK. We would not expect to levy a management charge if the donation were made under the terms set out in Dr Howell's letter of 9 May.
I have checked again with our Law Department over the question of an annual donation to the Cancer Research Institute and they have confirmed that it would not be possible for the Council to administer this as it falls outside the terms of our Charter. They query whether it would be possible for the donation from Sir SK Tang to be divided in two with that for the Cancer Research Institute being given directly to them.
