During a Spring Festival Reception, FANG Jun, Head of

the NCNA's Kowloon Office, extended an invitation to the

Chairman of Kowloon City District Board to organise a DB tour

to China.

Property Prices/Economic Outlook

Respondents in Kowloon City opined that although real

estate prices had recently risen sharply, the demand for

residential flats appeared to remain high. Whilst forecasting

a slowdown, respondents still felt that property prices would

continue to grow over the next 4-5 years. Confidence in the

economy of Hong Kong was also expressed by respondents in

Kowloon City; they thought that business would continue to boom

for several years to come.

A number of businessmen in Kwai Tsing said that to do

business successfully in China would require a lot of 'under

table' payments to Chinese officials. Fears were expressed that

this 'malpractice' might spread to Hong Kong after 1997. They

would set out to make as much money as possible in the next few

years and then emigrate.

10. A contact in the Islands, who has a relative working at

the Daya Bay Nuclear Plant, had been surprised to learn that
