is submitted to the Governor-in-Council, the objectee and/or his

legal adviser are given the opportunity to make a further submission

in the light of the comments of the Deputy Director. The decision

of the Governor-in-Council is final.

The UNHCR has access to all documentation concerning the screening

and objection cases and may intervene with the Government authorities at any time during the procedure.

So far, Immigration Officials have completed screening and announced

the results of cases involving 708 individuals: 646 persons were

screened out as non-refugees and 62 persons were accorded refugee

status.

Those who have been determined as non-refugees will continue to be

held in the detention centres pending repatriation to Vietnam.
