THE IVORY TRADE IN HONG KONG
The Government of Hong Kong is seriously concerned

the decline in the population of African elephants and has played a vigorous part in international efforts to protect the species. The Government believes, however, that selective trading bans on ivory products recently introduced by certain parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) will not reverse the decline and may in fact
make the situation worse.
