1.
My letter of 30 June to Bob Green in the DOE refers.
2. I spoke today to Roy Bunce (the Assistant Secretary in
DOE, Bristol) who is dealing with Bob Green's responsibilities
during the latter's summer leave. I referred Bunce to my letter to
Green and told him of our wish to be consulted on exemptions to the EC Regulation banning imports of ivory. Bunce readily accepted this, and said that in any case no action would be taken until the
DOE representative at the African Elephant Working Party Conference
returns next week.
3. You will wish to know that we have already invited the DOE
representative (Chris Folland) to meet us
us as he passes through
London en route to Bristol. We have also made clear to Folland that
we would welcome reporting telegrams on the meeting which he is attending in Gaborone and which started on 4 July. appeared so far!
