The owners and keepers of the whale have indicated to Ocean Park that since the application for the Import CITES Permit into Hong Kong has been delayed unexpectedly, it is not in the best interests of the whale to keep it in Japan indefinitely, and that they will start seeking another home for the whale if a reply is not obtained this month.
If Ocean Park is to transport the new whale into Kong Kong before the rainy and stormy typhoon season, which has always proved unfavourable for the health of our cetaceans, it is essential that a decision be made now, taking into consideration not only the welfare of the whale in Japan but also the existing whale in Ocean Park.
We hope to receive a favourable reply from your Department as soon as possible. If no decision is made soon, it may be too late. This outcome would be very serious for the future development and prestige of Ocean Park.
Yours faithfully,
Johnny Chin
