species (and controlled medicines) in cases where prosecutions are

brought and convictions or acquittals are recorded.

10. Clause 18 amends the Ordinance by adding a new Fifth

Schedule which lists those highly endangered species whose

derivatives or parts are contained in, or are claimed to be contained

in, controlled medicines. At present the new Schedule refers only to

rhinoceroses.

11.

The remaining clauses or subclauses of the Bill make

consequential amendments to the Ordinance.

12.

The new controls will require the employment of some extra

staff in the 1990-91 financial year at an estimated cost of $0.2

million per year.

The fivefold increase in financial penalties may

generate some additional general revenue.
