University of Science and Technology. The share in overall building and construction expenditure

attributable to the private sector was 65% in

the first half of 1989, compared with 66% in

1988.

Caution should be exercised in

interpreting the quarterly figures on building completions, as they are subject to fairly wide fluctuations (the same applies to the quarterly figures on building consents). Figures covering a longer period, say half a year or preferably a full year, are more meaningful for analysis.

Completions of industrial premises decreased by 31% in terms of floor area in the

first half of 1989 (Table 4). However, comparing the twelve months ending June 1989 with the same period a year earlier; completions increased by 34%. This was mainly because of a
