continued worldwide throughout the year. participated in Exercise MAGIC ROUNDABOUT
deployments to Seeb in Oman, Exercise RUM PUNCH- a trials and
training deployment to Homestead AFB in Florida and the Andros Range in the Bahamas; and the Fincastle Trophy Competition held in Australia. Tornado GR1 aircraft participated in Exercise WESTERN VORTEX low level flying training at Goose Bay in Canada, and Exercise RED FLAG at Nellis AFB in Nevada. A joint RAF/Army Movements Team was deployed to Windhoek in Namibia to coordinate the UNTAG airlift, and during August a detatchment of Chinooks deployed to Cyprus for possible use in Operation RADIATE. Finally, a Hercules carried out Hurricane Hugo Relief Operations in the West Indies flying approximately 500,000 lbs of freight and 400 passengers mainly between Antigua and Montserrat.

81. Sales Performance in 1988. OOA countries are the major purchasers of UK defence equipment and related services. Sales contracts with a total value of over £3.4bn (including a
notional £1bn for the Single Role Minehunters (SRMH) deal with
Saudi Arabia) were signed during the year with 78 00A countries.
This represents 78% of all UK overseas sales. In world market terms the UK achieved third place behind the USA and USSR, with a 13.3% share of the total world market for defence exports. The
major 00A customer countries in the period were: Saudi Arabia
(£2126m including £1000m SRMH deal), UAE (£190m), Jordan (£98m), South Korea (£89m), India (£59m), Algeria (£57m), Iraq (£36m), Australia (£36m), Kenya (£36m), Pakistan (£36m). Detailed sales
performance charts are at Annex I.

Outlook for Sales 1989-1994.
Sales in 1989 are likely to
run out at at least £2bn to £3bn depending on various contract negotiations. Prospects for the next 5 years look promising,
with the defence package in Malaysia and the continuation of Al In addition there are prospects in Algeria, Brunei,
Yamamah.
