50. The last year has seen a reduction of our LS team in

Jordan. The Jordanian Army did not want a replacement for an Army Bandmaster when he finished his tour earlier and the RJAF

similarly asked for a QFI not to be replaced when he finished his

tour in June. At present we have only two RAF LSP in Jordan.

The JAF are experiencing severe financial problems and we have

agreed to pay the in-country costs of both LSP. This will affect

the support available for UK courses and advisory visits. We

will maintain approximately the present level of support for

Jordan but an increase in LSP there seems unlikely for the

moment.

51. We intend to step up our support for Egypt. We have agreed to fund an advisory visit by CFS, and the Egyptian Navy in

particular is interested in UK support.

Short Term Training Team deployed to the Maldive Islands in

September to assist with the forming of a company size Task Force
