APPENDIX 4 TO ANNEX H TO

SITUATION
1.
In the event of the decision being taken for the Services to assist in the evacuation of British and friendly nationals from [
] by the implementation of JTP [
] it is certain that there will be international media interest, but it is not planned for a media party to accompany the evacuating forces from the United Kingdom. It is also certain that no more than the preliminary contingency planning will escape the knowledge of the media.
2. As soon as any ships, troops or units are warned, Public Relations planning must proceed, assuming that the media are aware that some form of evacuation is contemplated.
3. It is unrealistic to produce a covert Public Relations plan.
MISSION
The Defence Public Relations Staff (DPRS) is to support the implementation of JTP [ by the issue of such coordinated information as will be decided by

DPRS will be responsive to the changing political and military situation.

Policy for Public Relations will be agreed in MOD in consultation with the FCO, Cabinet Office and 10 Downing Street, and guidance and instructions will be issued to PR staffs by the Chief of Public Relations (CPR).
C. PR staffs in MOD and Commands are to work only within that guidance.
Current Policy Directives. The Operational Commander is to ensure that:
