If deployed, the unit would expect to use a dedicated secure channel on the CRL. Should it not be possible to provide this the unit will encrypt its own traffic (off line) for transmission over common user channels. The unit will have its own organic communications for use within theatre; its EW capabilities are summarised at paragraph 134 of the main plan.

a.

Force Signal Officer (FSO). HQ UKLF is to appoint an FSO to be responsible to the OCR for the coordination and control of all UK Services communications established for SAE operations. To assist the FSO where a large number of communication detachments are deployed an Army communica- tion command element may be deployed. Its size and composition would be decided during initial planning of an operation and could be up to 5 personnel.

b. Assistant Force Signal Officer (AFSO). HQ STC is to appoint an AFSO who will be responsible to the FSO for the coordination of RAF communication services.
