CHAIRMAN'S INTRODUCTION.
1.
The Chairman opened the meeting by welcoming CBF Hong Kong and SO2 J3 Ops and Plans HQ BFHK and, in particular, Mr Alan Paul, the new Head of the FCO HK Dept who was
accompanied by his assistant, Mr Robert Footman. He also
thanked Major Summerton, SO2 Maint (Avn) from HQ REME (Avn)
UK, attending in order to provide specialist advice under
Agenda Item 4.
2. The Chairman indicated that the First Revise of the
Hong Kong Garrison Withdrawal Plan, Reference A, would form
the background to the meeting. He noted that staffing of the
Paper was running some 2 months behind schedule but that the
revised plan had been forwarded to COS, after approval by
VCDS and HODS, on 14 Apr. Adding that their endorsement was
expected by 5 May, the Chairman stated that production of
the Paper had proved a formidable task and he thanked all
concerned for their efforts.
3.
The Chairman then drew the attention of the Committee
to the recommendations of the revised plan, copies of which
had been provided for each attendee, summarising the
principal elements involved, as follows:
