59. The COS are asked to note that if at any time the

situation or threat changes in a manner that is likely to justify a review of the above decisions or planning they will be advised accordingly.

60. The COS are advised to take note that the contingency plan for the reinforcement of Hong Kong (JTP 30) will be

reviewed in March 1990 and that the decision whether or not

to exercise JTP 30 via an in-theatre CPX in 1992, will in due

course be referred to them.

STUDIES

61. The COS are invited to endorse the requirement for a

DIS study of the factors likely to contribute to the

outbreak of violence in Hong Kong, and of what, if any, additional collection and assessment capability will be required to monitor the threat in order to achieve timely warning. This study should be completed by 1 July 1991 - in time to form a basis for the major review proposed in paragraphs 42 and 43.

62. The COS are asked to note that the following studies have already been commissioned or refined as a result of

this biennial review:
