REVISED ROLE AND TASKS FOR CBF'S DIRECTIVE
STRATEGIC AIM IN HONG KONG
1.
To help bring about the orderly transfer of sovereignty over Hong Kong to the People's Republic of China in accordance with the policy of HMG.
TASK IN HONG KONG
2.
Your task is to assist the Hong Kong Government (HKG) to maintain stability and security and to sustain confidence in British sovereignty in the Territory until 30 June 1997.
You are to:

Support the Civil Administration and Police in:
(1) The prevention of illegal immigration.
(2) The maintenance of law and order within the
Territory and on its frontiers;
(3) Dealing with natural disasters and similar
eventualities.
Demonstrate HMG's sovereignty over Hong Kong by maintaining the capability to deploy an appropriate range of military responses in the event of an incursion, threat of incursion, or any other
infringements of Hong Kong's territorial integrity, in accordance with political direction at the time.
