b. Helicopter Support. CDS 7/87 tasked a helicopter force study to be conducted by HQBFHK in 1989 - to determine the optimum AE/IUR and Wessex/Scout mixes. This study is expected to reflect the greater emphasis placed on mobility by CBFHK's revised Concept of Operations. It is to determine the garrison's peacetime helicopter flying tasks and operational contingency requirements and to recommend the appropriate establishments and the optimum mix of Wessex and Scouts for the rundown period post-1989. ensure the capability to operate 6 Wessex and 6 Scouts for an extended period in a contingency situation, the study is to review crew and aircraft establishments and to assess whether additional Wessex and Scout crews should be included in JTP 30, the Hong Kong reinforcement plan. The study is also to review the minimum contingency force of Scout helicopters and make recommendations concerning the management of Scouts in Hong Kong to guarantee short notice availability of this minimum contingency force.
52. Review of JTP 30. UKCICC is to review JTP 30 in March 1990, as planned, to ensure that the contingency plan for reinforcement of Hong Kong incorporates the findings of studies conducted by HQBFHK during 1989.
