C.

Helicopter Support.

CDS 7/87 tasked a helicopter force study

to be conducted by HQBFHK in 1989 to determine the optimum AE/IUR and

Wessex/Scout mixes. This study is likely to reflect the greater emphasis

placed on mobility by CBFHK's revised Concept of Operations. It is to

determine the garrison's peacetime helicopter flying tasks and operational

contingency requirements and to recommend the appropriate establishments

and the optimum mix of Wessex and Scouts for the rundown period post 1987.

To ensure the capability to operate 6 Wessex and 6 Scouts for an extended

period in a contingency situation, the study is to review crew and aircraft

establishments and to assess whether additional Wessex and Scout crews

should be included in JTP 30, the Hong Kong reinforcement plan.
