SINO-BRITISH JOINT LIAISON GROUP ON HONG KONG

Spokesman announced that the fourteenth meeting of the Sino-British Joint Liaison Group on Hong Kong would take place in Hong Kong from
5-8 December. The British team would be led by the Senior
Representative, Mr Anthony Galsworthy. The other members of the
British team would be Mr Barrie Wiggham (Secretary for General
Duties, Hong Kong), Mr Alan Paul (Head of Hong Kong Department,
FCO), Mr William Ehrman (Political Adviser, Hong Kong) and Mr Doug Martin (Counsellor, Office of the British Senior Representative, Sino-British Joint Liaison Group, Hong Kong).
LEBANON
Spokesman drew attention to the statement by the Twelve on the
election of the new President of Lebanon issued in Paris on
25 November.
VIETNAMESE BOAT PEOPLE
In response to a question about the Vietnamese Government's recent statement concerning their opposition to forcible repatriation Spokesman said that this was not new. The Vietnamese Government had always made clear their opposition to forcible repatriation. In response to further questions suggesting that this would make repatriation impossible Spokesman responded that of course we respected the Vietnamese Government's views: they were well aware
that we would be using normal repatriation methods in sending back
boat people.
