MUTUAL JUDICIAL ASSISTANCE AGREEMENT WITH THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA

1. I have been in touch with the Lord Chancellor's Department about the proposed Sino-British Mutual Judicial Assistance Agreement. Michael Farmer has now taken over responsibility within the Lord Chancellor's Department for producing a draft agreement. He has just started and has not yet immersed himself in the details of the project, but hopes to be able to produce a draft for discussion by the end of July. He will be in touch if he needs any advice from us.

2.

It is good that work on this is now getting going again. Mr Farmer said that this agreement was seen within the Lord Chancellor's Department as a priority task for 1989/90.
